From free tapas and tasty churros to getting lost in the Albaicin and exploring the historic grounds of Alhambra: the best things to see and experience in this guide to Granada.

One word: Alhambra

One of the most iconic landmarks and most visited attractions in Spain, Alhambra on its own is a reason to visit Granada. Located on the top of a mountain, the historic Moorish palace overlooks the city. It features mosaic walls, exquisite stone carvings, immaculate gardens and courtyards. Take your time exploring, I suggest giving yourself a full day to walk around.

Tip: The top of the Arms Tower offers great views of Granada.

General information about tickets:

  • Advanced booking is highly recommended due to great demand (at least two weeks)

  • Visits are divided into turns:

  • Morning (8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

  • Afternoon (2 p.m. to 6 p.m.)

  • Adult: 14 euros

Mirador San Nicholas

Granada is filled with incredible "miradores" or lookouts, Mirador San Nicholas being the most famous. You may find musicians and vendors while captivating the incredible view of Alhambra from afar. The 20 minute ascending walk is worth the picturesque view.

Tip: This is the perfect location to view a sunset.

Sacromonte Caves Tour

Found in the hills of Granada lie the cave community of Sacromonte. This is a tourist attraction due to the unique lifestyle. A mixture of friendly nomads, hippies and gypsies make up the community living in the abandoned caves. This is a great spot to experience Flamenco shows.

Albaicin

Get lost in the narrow and eccentric cobblestone streets of Albaicin. You'll come across hidden pathways leading to various enchanting gypsy stores. I suggest starting off with a walking tour to learn about the neighbourhoods history.

Granada's Finest Plazas

Plaza Bib-Rambla

Order fresh churros, people watch and enjoy the beautiful view of the plaza.

Plaza Pescadaria

Visit Oliver restaurant for the most incredible paella.

Calle Navas

The perfect street to bar hop for tapas and sangria. Visit La Puerta Del Carmen and El Mentidero for a treat.

Tip: Most places offer free tapas if you order a drink!

Granada is nothing short of picturesque.
